Off The Wall Wednesday: Be Creative

27 Mar

Do you ever attend a wedding and think ‘Seen this before.’?  ‘Wasn’t the last wedding I went to exactly like this?’  ‘When will people step up their game and do something interesting?’  I am pretty sure that everyone and their brother has been there and, well, IT’S BORING!  A wedding or commitment ceremony should express the couple and their personal story,  not the 20 other drab couples that you know.  STOP BEING DULL!  Obviously…everyone is going to copy something.  You have to get your inspiration somewhere.  All we are saying here at Brown County Weddings is to try and think outside the box a little.  It could be extreme, which, let’s be honest, someday you’re going to look back at that and think ‘What the Hell was I thinking?’, but at least it’s a good and interesting memory.  A story to tell.  Or it could be something a bit more subtle and very you…something that you can look back on and think ‘It felt so good to be us and original.’  I know, I know.  For some reason it is so hard to be different, original, experimental, but we here at Brown County Weddings think you can do it!

So….From here on out, Wednesdays will be for wedding ideas that make you think outside the box,  and for showcasing some crazy wedding ideas.

This week, I would like to start with those little monsters we love to call flower girls and ring bearers.  I am just kidding about the ‘little monsters’ part.  Sort of.  ;).  What little kid wants to get all dressed up in a stuffy little outfit and stand awkwardly at the front of all the guests with all the attention on them.   Trust us, none.  We have witnessed these little bundles of joy kicking, screaming and undressing themselves in front of everyone just to escape.   Furthermore…those outfits will never be used again.

At Brown County Weddings we suggest doing something fun and exciting.  Plus these little pieces could be used for Halloween costumes later or,  even for dress up play around the house.

Make these wee ones feel special and give them a cooler job than holding a ring pillow or throwing flowers.  While some things, such as the wee ones walking down the aisle with a banner saying ‘here comes the bride’, are cute and we definitely suggest using them in some way or other.  What about doing something with a little ‘POW’!  A talented Bloomington, Indiana local, owenr at Pip & Bean is making these A-MAZING Superhero capes.

How freaking cute are these.  We even love the idea of doing a little superhero theme for the entire wedding.  Nothing cheesy of course….just little snippets of superhero-dom throughout the wedding in a tasteful manner.  Not only are these adorable, but also a fun and creative way to put some pizazz into your wedding.  I mean how often do you see this?  And, while Pip & Bean has specific ring bearer & flower girl capes, they also makes custom capes and there are multiple other looks, which means you can customize the little wonders to your liking.  Make them characters.  Maybe  even get capes for the couple or the wedding party to have in pictures.  Groomsmen with superhero boutonnieres.  Bridesmaids with superhero insignia in their bouquets. You could make a whole affair out of it and it’s perfect for all those comic book junkies.

We love this wedding off of Green Wedding Shoes.  Vintage inspired with just a touch of comic book love.

So dare to be creative and off the wall in your wedding.  Find something original to you and have fun with it.

Thoughtful Thursdays: A Glass Bottle Surplus

21 Mar

In our ever commercializing world, with the loom of ‘global climate change’ over our heads, sometimes we need to be ‘thoughtful’ and think about all the things we can do to make less of an impact on beautiful mother nature.  So…drum roll please….Thursdays will, from here on out, be deemed ‘Thoughtful Thursdays’.  Wedding ideas that incorporate REUSE.  So not only are ‘Thoughtful Thursdays’ for ways to keep our environment a bit cleaner, but you’ll also be saving some much needed cash money.

Today, we’ll start with glass bottles.  Let’s all just be honest and admit how many empty bottles of wine or beer that we can come up with in a VERY short time period.  Don’t even try to deny it.  All this wedding planning has got you in stress mode and at the end of the day….or the middle…or the beginning {you know this is the favorite}, you’re looking to unwind with a bottle of something tasty -or- dare we say, soothing  It’s all good.  We all get there at some point. Whatever that bottle may be, you can single handedly help save the environment (sort of) and money.  Yay.  If for some reason you don’t think you could possibly create a surplus of glass bottles all on your lonesome, invite your friends over for a Sunday Funday.  After they are past their prime, sweet talk them into de-labeling all those bottles, obviously the peskiest part of the entire process.  And…if for some reason you have a serious problem with being a lush, fear not.  Glass bottles from pasta sauces, olives, pickles can be a great use as well.

So with a little Drinking. Collecting. Paint. and Fun.  You can achieve a very cost efficient centerpiece along with reusing a lot of product that would otherwise end up in the landfill.  We love the idea of all these projects.  You just need some to think creative and outside the box.  Besides…isn’t it refreshing to have something new at your wedding?  Those large, over the top, and expensive floral centerpieces are ‘SO LAST YEAR’.  Well sort of…here at Brown Co. Weddings, we prefer the simple with a big wow factor for the budget conscious couple.  Stop.  Collaborate. PAINT!
